At the 25th edition of the annual Personality of the Year Awards hosted by the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, Ana Sanches, CEO of Anglo American in Brazil, received the 2026 Personality of the Year award on behalf of Anglo American. This was the second time Anglo American received the award, with the previous time being in 2011.

The award recognises Anglo American’s commitment to sustainable mining and support for local communities through job creation, education and broader socio-economic development initiatives, strengthening economic ties between Brazil and the United Kingdom.

During the ceremony held on 9 June in London, Ana emphasised the recognition is the result of a collective effort and dedication from colleagues across the company and our valued partners.

Ana said: “Behind every achievement, there are people who believe in and help build increasingly sustainable and innovative mining. We receive this recognition with great pride and, with it, we reaffirm our conviction that it is possible to produce the minerals the world needs in a responsible way, generating shared value for society. A company’s true legacy goes beyond what it produces; it lies in what it helps build. We want to be recognized not only for the resources we extract, but for the opportunities we help create.”

The Personality of the Year Awards Gala Dinner is one of the main events on the Brazil-UK business calendar, recognising organisations and leaders that contribute to strengthening bilateral relations. Since its inception, the event has brought together leaders from business, government, diplomacy, culture and academia to recognise achievements that drive collaboration, innovation and sustainable growth.

Ana concluded: “Headquartered in the United Kingdom and operating in Brazil for more than 50 years, Anglo American represents this connection in practice, fostering the exchange of knowledge, investments, innovation, and sustainable development. Brazil and the United Kingdom share a long history of cooperation, and we believe the next chapters of this relationship will be even more significant. We receive this recognition with gratitude, humility, and the conviction that the most important work is always the work that still lies ahead. Thank you very much.”
