Introduction

The Health focus area within the Thriving Communities theme is how we improve health equity by helping to strengthen health systems and addressing local priorities.

In line with our Purpose, we continue to play an active role in improving the lives of not only our workforce, but of the local communities around our operations.

Our approach to community health is informed by guidance and investment targeting that are aligned to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) whole of society approach to community health.

Community health programmes involve, but extend beyond, our workforce and their dependents to support the wider community. Beneficiaries of programmes do not necessarily have a connection to Anglo American, our initiatives view our communities holistically and strive to achieve equitable access.

All stakeholder engagement processes are conducted in line with the Social Way.

Our approach

We aim to achieve our global ambition through complementary global and/or regional partnerships for systemic change and catalytic investment, aligned with local commitments, with our businesses establishing health priorities that are relevant and meaningful to their local contexts. We contribute to outcomes in the following three areas:

Contributing to strengthening health systems.
Addressing local health and disease priorities.
Considering the link between our environmental context and its impact on human health and improving associated health outcomes.

We are doing this by forming effective partnerships to ensure our commitment to community health drives long-term societal value rather than simply intervening to mitigate our impact.
