Introduction

Our longstanding commitment to responsible mining is part of who we are, helping to set us apart as a leader in our industry - it is also at the heart of how we live up to our Purpose: we are re-imagining mining to improve people's lives.

Sustainability is embedded into our strategy and value creation model across our organisation. It is a strategic enabler to execute our corporate strategy and helps manage core business risks and costs such as community conflict, permitting delays, and environmental exposure – and it enables growth, especially in regions where trust in mining is low scrutiny is high.

Our Sustainability Strategy for the simplified Anglo American portfolio is a key component of FutureSmart Mining^TM, which integrates innovation in both sustainability and technology across our operations and in developing new mines to deliver enhanced value for our business, our stakeholders and our planet.

We recognise that sustainability isn’t one-size-fits-all, so we have tailored our approach to balance both Group and business-specific targets focused on local priorities that create value for each asset.

Our streamlined technology innovation portfolio prioritizes localized, high-impact, technologies that address sustainability challenges (e.g. Coarse Particle Recovery (CPR), SandLix™, Hydraulic Dewatered Stacking (HDS), Sensing).

Integrated Strategy & Planning

Pro-active integration of sustainability into long-term planning enhances strategic outcomes, ensures the value delivery pathway is clear and supports more efficient permitting. We embed sustainability into every stage of our strategy and planning cycle (from Resource Development Plans (RDPs) to Life of Asset Plans (LoAPs)), aligning asset strategies with environmental and social priorities. We are improving quality and consistency of key environmental data such as land use, water, emissions, to support monitoring and decision making.
