International Nurses Day 2026 – Honouring You

On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, we join the global health community in celebrating International Nurses Day, marking the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale and recognising the extraordinary contribution nurses make to health, wellbeing and lives across the world.

This year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) has set the global theme:

“Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”

The theme is a powerful call to action. It highlights that when nurses are empowered with safe and fair working conditions, strong leadership support and the opportunity to practise to the full scope of their expertise, they not only save lives, but strengthen health systems and improve outcomes for communities everywhere.

On this International Nurses Day 2026, please join me in celebrating the remarkable contribution of nursing professionals - not only in caring for employees and contractors at Anglo American, but also for the vital role nurses play across the world.

Nursing is a truly global profession. Across all our operating areas, workplace and community nursing teams deliver highly skilled, safety‑critical care that supports our people and the communities around us. At a time of increasing geopolitical instability, shrinking development funding and growing pressure on local health systems, nurses globally face shared challenges that transcend borders. Continuing this work requires exceptional dedication, professionalism, resilience and expertise.

Across Anglo American, our nurses play a vital role in caring for our people and enabling safer, healthier workplaces. From primary and preventive care to early interventions, health education and the everyday conversations that make a difference, they are often the first point of contact and a trusted source of guidance and support.

Globally, nurses continue to work under increasing pressure amid workforce shortages and growing healthcare demands. International Nurses Day 2026 shines a spotlight not only on recognising their contribution, but on the importance of investing in nurses’ wellbeing, safety, development and leadership — moving beyond appreciation towards meaningful empowerment.

Speaking in recognition of International Nurses Day, VP: Health, Robina McCann, shared her appreciation for nurses across the Group:

“Our nurses are at the heart of the care we provide to our people. They lead with compassion, professionalism and purpose - often in challenging circumstances. Empowered nurses save lives, strengthen communities and build healthier futures, and we are deeply grateful for the commitment, care and leadership our nurses demonstrate every day.”

As we honour nurses across Anglo American and around the world, we also reaffirm the importance of caring for the carers. This day is an opportunity for reflection, recognition, celebration and renewal, and for recommitting to creating environments where nurses feel supported, valued and able to thrive, both professionally and personally.

To all our nurses: thank you for the difference you make, for the lives you touch, and for the unwavering dedication you bring to your work.

Happy International Nurses Day 2026.
