In the map above, you can discover specific climate and nature data related to our key operations.
Looking at climate, you can discover the scope one and two emissions data for each site.
Looking at nature, to determine both the geographical context of our direct operations and assess potential biodiversity dependencies and impacts we utilise public databases and our own ecological assessments.
Together, these tools provide a comprehensive spatial and ecological understanding of Anglo American’s biodiversity interface, where operations intersect with sensitive ecosystems, protected areas, Key Biodiversity Areas or critical species habitats.
For each site, an assessment of the following biodiversity-related features is provided. This includes:
To assess the potential risks posed to biodiversity at each site, appropriate buffer sizes are used. need to be used. For Mining operations a buffer of 50km is applied to effectively incorporate the area of influence of each site. This buffer is as recommended by ICMM and guided by available literature and expert knowledge. Within the 50km buffer, biodiversity significant is considered Low (15-50km), Medium (5-<15km) and High (<5km).
