Anglo American’s supply chain plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable and sustainable operations. We approach this responsibility through two complementary programmes: Responsible Sourcing and Inclusive Procurement.

Responsible Sourcing focuses on embedding ethical practices and environmental protection, as well as labour and human rights standards, across our global supply base, seeking to ensure that goods and services are delivered to Anglo American without harm to people and the environment.

Inclusive procurement aims to create equitable economic opportunities by supporting host-community suppliers and fostering diversified growth in the communities where we operate. Together, these programmes set us apart by combining operational excellence with a commitment to ethical and inclusive practices.

Inclusive procurement in Peru

When reviewing proposals for chemical-metallurgical laboratory services, our Peru supply chain team identified a significant change in the incumbent supplier’s offering.

This led the team to explore alternatives that could deliver both competitiveness and local impact.

The team engaged Sequitec, a host-community supplier previously sub-contracted for equipment maintenance. Sequitec demonstrated strong technical capability and submitted a highly competitive proposal. The company also showcased local production capacity for key re-agents and committed to expanding its re-agent portfolio in the long term.

Awarding the maintenance contract and supply of non-regulated re-agents directly to Sequitec improved efficiency, strengthened transparency and increased host-community participation in our supply chain. This decision supports long-term local development and opens opportunities for expanded re-agent manufacturing capacity in Moquegua. This case study illustrates how inclusive procurement can deliver operational value while fostering sustainable economic growth.
