Anglo American was a Silver Sponsor of PERUMIN 37, one of the most important mining conventions in the region, hosted in Arequipa, Peru, from 22 to 26 September 2025. This year our participation at PERUMIN focused on promoting a smarter, more efficient and sustainable model of mining that delivers value for a wide range of stakeholders.

Our delegation combined their technical expertise with a strong programme of engagement to demonstrate how purpose-led practice and technology are reshaping the sector, with our Quellaveco operation in Peru, a first generation FutureSmart mine, exemplifying what modern and sustainable mining looks like.

A diverse programme and expert insights

Anglo American delivered an extensive programme at PERUMIN 37, blending technical papers, thematic panels and immersive demonstrations. Presentations covered process optimisation, digital transformation, decarbonisation pathways and workforce development. Thematic panels examined governance, human rights, diversity and the role of innovation in minimising environmental impacts. A variety of immersive experiences brought these themes to life, allowing delegates and the public to see practical examples of modern mining in action.

Throughout the event, our subject matter experts presented evidence-based perspectives and practical case studies addressing some of the most pressing issues in the industry and showcasing our innovation-led approach to mining. Presentations included:

  • Juan Cahuana, Process Manager, discussed process improvement initiatives that increase throughput and lower energy consumption through optimisation and automation.
  • Tamiko Hasegawa, Sustainability and Innovation Manager, shared our vision on issues relevant to both the mining sector and society, such as circular and regenerative mining, the future of the energy transition, and the progress, challenges and benefits of inclusion and diversity in mining.
  • Cinthya Lozano, Integrated Operations Manager, explored the integration of operations and digital systems to improve safety, predictability and asset performance.
  • Eduardo Torrejón, Supply Chain Performance Manager, explained the key aspects of our Quellaveco operation’s success and examples of innovation in action from a supply chain perspective.

We were honored with the PERUMIN Seal for Excellence in Gender Equity, a prestigious recognition that celebrates organizations committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Technology, innovation and immersive experiences

Anglo American made use of immersive experiences at our stand to make complex technical advancements accessible to audiences at PERUMIN. Virtual demonstrations highlighted remote operations, real‑time monitoring and predictive maintenance, showing how digital tools reduce risks and improve efficiency.

Innovation case studies included pilot projects in low-carbon power, electrification of fleets and data-driven safety improvements. The immersive experiences enabled visitors to better understand the operational and social benefits of these technical advancements in an easily accessible way.

Sustainability, thriving communities and inclusion

Central to our presence at PERUMIN was a focus on sustainable value creation. Key sessions addressed:

  • Climate and environment: pathways to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions, water management improvements and land rehabilitation strategies.
  • Community partnership: models for creating shared-value projects that support local economic development and long-term livelihoods.
  • Inclusion and diversity: initiatives to increase representation across technical, supervisory and leadership roles and to build inclusive workplace cultures.

Speakers highlighted results from community co-design projects and workforce training programmes that show measurable social and economic benefits.

Awards and recognitions

To top off another successful participation in PERUMIN, Anglo American was awarded the PERUMIN Seal for Excellence in Gender Equity, as well as achieving first place in the Mining 4.0 category for an innovative digital twin project and its impact on Quellaveco’s operational efficiency, presented by Felipe Carrillo, Superintendent of Autonomy at Quellaveco.

Our partnerships with Amautas Mineros, a student-led organisation promoting the higher education studies in metals and mining across Peru, and Women in Mining Peru, an organisation advancing the participation of women in the Peruvian mining sector, were also recognised for helping to promote a modern, inclusive and responsible mining industry in the country.
