Our engineers are problem solvers extraordinaire and their skills are deployed right across Anglo American.
Their enquiring minds, flexibility, and innovative approach are invaluable in every part of our business: from Exploration and Discovery, to Mining and Processing, engineers play a vital role in helping us to transform the nature of our industry.
Mining engineers are behind the systems and equipment that allow us to locate, extract, and move our metals and minerals. In today’s industry, and in Anglo American, they’re also focused on designing mining equipment and techniques that put safety and the environment first.
FutureSmart Mining™ is our innovation-led approach to sustainable mining. There are three elements - technology, digitalisation, and sustainability - all working together to transform the nature of mining.
Our engineers are playing their part in that transformation, designing equipment and systems to improve people’s lives, inside and outside our operations and bringing our FutureSmart Mining TM Vision to life.
For example, the introduction of our digital Advanced Diver Assistance System (ADAS) has helped to improve road safety and saved lives in the business while the Constant Online Condition Monitoring or ConMon system in use in our PGMs’ Mogalakwena mine in South Africa identifies potential equipment failures up to six months in advance, improving safety and saving the operation valuable time and money.
Some of our engineers will also have been part of the team behind the building of our first Integrated Remote Operation Centre (IROC).
The IROC enables our Copper business in Chile to run its Los Bronces mine remotely from its head office located 65 miles in Santiago, the country’s capital.
And when it starts production in 2022, our Quellaveco copper operation in Peru will be our first 100% digital and environmentally neutral mine, again with a little help from Anglo American’s engineers.
We only succeed if you succeed - from day one of your time with Anglo American, your development will be a priority for us.
