Category management

The majority of our supply chain expenditure is organised centrally through our global category management system. There are 21 materials and services categories, managed by our strategic sourcing teams.

Local procurement

Linking our demand for goods and services with local economies is essential to create private sector growth and jobs in the regions where we operate. We recognise that the gap between the capacities of businesses in local communities and our procurement requirements is often significant. Therefore, we have various initiatives underway to develop local suppliers and increase our local procurement.

Low-cost country sourcing

As part of our procurement strategy, we aim to build supplier relationships within a number of low-cost countries. Our main focus to date has been extending our supply chain programme to China, and over the coming years, we will be developing similar strategies in other countries, such as India.
