Our Moranbah North mine in Queensland, Australia has recently confirmed its platinum sponsorship of the Central Queensland Rescue Service for the second year running.

Part of the Royal Automobile Club of Queenland (RACQ), the rescue helicopter is a vital service transporting ill and seriously injured people to hospitals in the city of Mackay from around central Queensland. It ensures that speedy medical and specialist treatment is provided where needed.

Employee support

In 2014, our sponsorship ensured that the rescue helicopter made over 600 flights, including to Moranbah and other Anglo American mining communities, saving lives when time was of the essence.

The support for this iconic service was strengthened by our employees taking advantage of our workplace giving scheme. On top of the AUS $100,000 direct donation from the Moranbah North Social and Investment Fund, employees at Moranbah joined together to raise an incredible additional AUS $16,000. The funds were donated by individuals through salary deductions made throughout 2014.

Moranbah North’s new Acting General Manager, Craig Manz had the pleasure of presenting the organization’s Relationships Manager, Leonie Hansen, with the sponsorship cheque late last year

Dedicated to safety

Craig highlighted the fact that safety is one of Anglo American’s core values during the event and that the continued sponsorship of the helicopter service ensures that the wider community, as well as Anglo American families, have access to vital support when needed most.

“We are incredibly proud of our support for CQ Rescue and I am delighted that Anglo American continues to back these vital regional Queensland services.

“The voluntary contributions from our staff were phenomenal, donating substantial additional funds to an organisation that relies heavily on the community to fund its operational requirements.

“I look forward to another great year in 2015 of support and partnership with the rescue service,” Craig said.

Leonie Hansen recognised Anglo American as one of the vital contributors to the organisation in providing vital lifesaving services to the community.
