At Anglo American, our goal is to create an inclusive workplace where every colleague can bring their whole self to work and fulfil their potential - regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, family status, background or any other characteristic.
This Pride Month, we would like to highlight the importance of colleague networks that help us create the environment that we are striving for.
The Real You network was launched in 2018 for our employees, with the purpose of promoting a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBT+ colleagues.
The core aim of the network is to create a channel for colleagues who want and need to reach out to be safe at work. The network also creates awareness, understanding and empathy around LGBT+ issues through events, communications and educational activities, providing confidential support to all employees at all levels on LGBT+ issues, providing support to enable employees to report homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, harassment and victimisation.
Due to Covid-19, many parades, concerts and gatherings that characterise Pride are once again taking place online or have been delayed this year, and the Real You network has been making use of virtual spaces so that members can still come together and make a statement of solidarity with LGBT+ friends and colleagues with a number of events and celebrations including their now annual Pride Quiz, LGBT+ 101 sessions and the continuation of allyship empowerment workshops.
Here are few quotes from across Anglo American and De Beers Group on employees’ experiences as members of Real You.
