Safety is more than a priority at Anglo American; it's a way of life. We are committed to protecting its people physically and psychologically. For over 10 years, Global Safety Day marks a time when worldwide our locations come together to emphasize this commitment.

Throughout the day, our Chief Executive, Duncan Wanblad, alongside senior leaders, executives, and esteemed external keynote speakers, delivered crucial messages and engaged in insightful panel discussions. We also paused to remember those we've lost in safety incidents, as no one should come to work and worry that they might not ever return to their loved ones.

Our London event featured a fascinating keynote talk from Bernie Collins, a Formula 1 expert and former race strategy leader uncovering a surprising number of parallels with our industry and conveys that safety is not a trade-off to high performance, but intrinsic to it.

We celebrated Global Safety Day 2023 at three packed venues in 144 Oxford. Nearly 900 colleagues also joined us online, embracing the theme of ‘Stand up for Safety.’ Global Safety Day united our Johannesburg colleagues under the banner of safety and reminded us of our responsibilities towards each other.

The Woodsmith Project celebrated Global Safety Day with a strong emphasis on health and wellbeing. These sessions took place at various locations, including Resolution House, Woodsmith Mine, and Wilton International sites.

Our teams in Brazil, Peru, Chile, Singapore and Australia also hosted in-person and hybrid events.

Global Safety Day reminds us all that safety is everyone's responsibility, and it should be upheld every day, everywhere.
