People are our business, and that means our first priority is always employee safety.
Our annual Global Safety Day is one of the most important days in our calendar. For the last 10 years, we’ve used this day as an opportunity for employees to stop, get together, and focus on how to remain safe at work, and at home.
During Global Safety Day 2021, which took place last week, all global operations took time to reflect on our universal commitment to best practice mining safety.
Our Chief Executive Mark Cutifani together with our Group Director for Strategy and Business Development Duncan Wanblad, visited our Woodsmith Project in North Yorkshire – part of our Crop Nutrients business – to recognise our commitment to safety 365 days a year.
“Today is the most important day in the Anglo American calendar and it’s a real privilege to join the Crop Nutrients team on their first one. We listened to some incredible guest speakers who were living proof of our theme ‘Safe to always be safe’ and the importance of speaking up if something doesn’t feel right.
“Global Safety Day is also a time to reflect on the past year and take a moment to think about the colleagues, friends and family who have suffered or been lost in the Covid-19 pandemic.’’ said Mark Cutifani thanking every individual working for Anglo American for their commitment and contribution during these challenging times.
In a message sent to employees across the Group, Mark wrote:
“This year, we are recognising and celebrating our true safety leaders - those colleagues who choose to do the right, safe thing every day in order to create an environment where we are all safe to always be safe. Each of us is a safety leader and we have an important role to play in making sure every colleague returns home safely from work at the end of each day.
