Anglo American and Anglo American Platinum both feature on the respected 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index.

The Index is made up of 380 companies in 44 countries across 11 sectors ranging from automotive, banking, and consumer services to engineering, construction, and retail.

Companies are required to answer 59 questions that relate to five areas: female leadership and talent pipeline, gender pay and equal pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

Anglo American

Liz Douglas, Head of HR - Corporate Functions and Inclusion and Diversity for Anglo American said: “Inclusion in the Gender Equity index, and our performance in each of the sectors within it, reflects the progress we have made together over the last three years. Our female representation in senior leadership has increased to 27%, as has our female representation at Bands 5 and above. However, it is not the targets we achieve that matter but the people systems, processes and approach we put in place to make each and every positive change sustainable. This index also provides us with insight into the improvements we can continue to make to create an even more collaborative, respectful and effective workplace where everyone can bring their whole selves to work, to fulfil their potential and to thrive.”

We have been doing significant work to build a workplace where all employees, regardless of gender, race or religious background, can fulfil their potential. However, building a diverse and capable team isn’t enough. It must be accompanied by a culture of trust and understanding, which ensures people are comfortable sharing their views and are open to change. To that end, participating in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index allows us to benchmark against the best companies in the world and identify areas where we can make further improvements.

Natascha Viljoen Chief Executive Officer

Peter T. Grauer, Chairman, Bloomberg, commented: “Companies that provide an inclusive environment supporting work-life balance and flexible work arrangements will eventually succeed in retaining a talented workforce and gain a competitive advantage in a business environment that has been significantly altered, possibly forever."
