Anglo American and Anglo American Platinum both feature on the respected 2022 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), with Anglo American increasing its overall score to 81% this year.

Liz Douglas, Head of HR - Corporate Functions and Inclusion and Diversity for Anglo American, commented: "Being included in the Gender Equality Index again this year - with an increased score - reflects how we are continuing to build on our long-term strategy for gender balance, not just in leadership, but throughout Anglo American.

"While we are pleased to be able to demonstrate progress, this index and the detailed analysis we receive allows us to see even more clearly where we can make sustainable improvements to our processes and policies. Using these insights will allow us to continue to build an even more collaborative, respectful, and effective workplace where everyone can where everyone can bring their whole selves to work, to fulfil their potential and to thrive."

Once again we’re pleased to be included in Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index. In line with our purpose to re-imagine mining to improve people’s lives, we continue to be committed to creating a culture where all employees – regardless of race, gender, class, or religious background can be their full selves in the workplace.

Natascha Viljoen Chief Executive

“We have made great strides in improving the representation of women across all levels of the company, but we know that we face numerous challenges – including accelerating our commitment to combat gender-based violence. Our commitment to inclusion and diversity is an important ingredient in making sure that we continue to attract and retain top talent in the industry and make a positive impact on society.”

The Index is made up of 418 companies in 45 countries and regions across 11 sectors ranging from energy and finance to health care and utilities.

Companies are required to answer 60 questions that relate to five areas: female leadership and talent pipeline, gender pay and equal pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

Peter T. Grauer, Chairman, Bloomberg, said: “We are proud to recognise the 418 companies included in the 2022 GEI for their commitment to transparency and setting a new standard in gender-related data reporting. Even though the threshold for inclusion in the GEI has risen, the member list continues to grow. This is a testament to the fact that more companies are working to improve upon their gender-related metrics, fostering more opportunity for diverse talent to succeed in their organisations.”
