In 1972, Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, was the host city for the Conference on the Human Environment, the world’s first major conference on environmental issues. In December of that year, the United Nations designated 5 June as World Environment Day.
The day was designed to remind us that the protection and health of the environment is the responsibility of all of us. It’s a major issue that affects the wellbeing of people and economic development around the world.
More than 50 years on from that first conference, at Anglo American a Healthy Environment is one of the three pillars of our Sustainable Mining Plan.
