Our copper business in Chile has made history by commissioning the first green hydrogen station for carbon zero vehicles in the country. This is another step towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 as a part of our Sustainable Mining Plan targets.
Located at the Las Tórtolas floatation plant in the Colina region of Chile, the new station has generated the first green hydrogen molecule for electromobility in the country. Through a hydrogen generator module with a production capacity of 2kg of H2 per day, a fuel cell is fed that provides clean energy to a forklift crane, in addition to a stationary fuel cell, which reinjects energy to the local electricity grid.
The launch of the initiative took place this week at Las Tórtolas with Aaron Puna, CEO of Anglo American in Chile, René Muga, Anglo American Chile's Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Permits and Environment, with the participation of Sebastián Piñera, the President of Chile and Juan Carlos Jobet, Minister of Mining and Energy for the country among other prominent guests.
