The UN’s International Volunteers Day is a chance for us all to celebrate the contribution of our employee volunteers at Anglo American. The day provides an opportunity for us to applaud the achievements of our volunteers and recognise the difference they make to our host communities. It also allows us to explore how we can individually help to improve the lives of others in the coming year.

To mark the day, we are sharing our 2020 Volunteering at Anglo American Report to remind everyone of some of the greatest achievements our volunteers made last year – click here to download the Report in EnglishSpanish or Portuguese.

Last year, 350 volunteers in Anglo American donated more than 8,742 hours of their time to help 95,434 beneficiaries and 332 charities and social projects. The donation time of many was supplemented by a grant donation of $652,220 from the Anglo American Foundation.

Ambassadors for Good, which brings to life our Purpose of re-imagining mining to improve people’s lives, is our popular skills-based employee volunteering programme. It empowers our people to support and champion the causes they’re passionate about and make a potentially life-changing difference to those around us. It was successfully launched as a pilot in the UK and South Africa in 2018, with 72 projects, and is backed by funding from the Anglo American Foundation. Watch here to see how Ambassadors from our 2020 programme helped to make an impact.

Our Ambassadors for Good programme is popular with colleagues at Anglo American and De Beers Group because it’s a ‘hands on’ way to support our host communities and make a real difference very quickly. It also provides the opportunity to learn from diverse cultures and communities across the globe. The programme has grown from year to year, and 2022 is a landmark year for us because it will be available to more colleagues from across the group than ever before.”
