We are excited to announce the expansion of Ambassadors for Good, an employee volunteering programme that gives Anglo American and De Beers Group employees the chance to use their skills to help their communities, backed by funding from the Anglo American Foundation.

At Anglo American, our Purpose is to ‘re-imagine mining to improve people’s lives.’ And at De Beers Group, Building Forever describes our commitment to creating a lasting positive legacy, both through our own activities and by working in partnership with others.

Following a successful pilot in the UK and South Africa in 2018, Ambassadors for Good has been expanded and this year projects will also be delivered in Brazil and Canada.

Reaching full potential

Ambassadors for Good allows our employees to use and develop their skills to help community projects they really care about. Last year, employees were involved in 72 projects as diverse as helping in community gardens and coaching youth football teams, to researching human rights in the shipping sector and inspiring engineers of the future.

Diego Hernandez, General Manager at Anglo American in London, ran the ‘Migrant Leaders’ project, with the aim of helping talented young people who are first, second and third generation migrants, often from disadvantaged backgrounds.

By giving them access to senior management and sharing corporate experiences, these young people are better able to reach their full potential because we’re encouraging them to aim high and become future leaders

Diego

I wanted to help show that they could succeed – independently of whatever background and circumstances one might have.

“The impact on the young people was amazing, and for me, being able to make a difference in this way was incredibly rewarding.”

You can find out more about Diego’s project – and projects from other 2018 alumni – in this video.
