Anglo American becomes principal sponsor of Women in Mining
Anglo American is pleased to announce that it has become the principal sponsor of Women in Mining in the UK. The newly established relationship between Anglo American and Women in Mining (WIM) will help to promote the mining industry to women across the globe and facilitate communication to students and experienced professionals alike.
Announcing the formation of the new relationship, Anglo
American’s Group Head of Talent, Development and Resourcing,
Kevin Bishop, said: “We are delighted that we have become the
principal sponsor of WIM in the UK, an organisation dedicated to
promoting the employment, retention and progress of women in the
mining industry. Anglo American’s sponsorship will allow WIM
to progress with its plans to develop its on-line capabilities, to
increase awareness through public events and to further grow,
retain and engage with its membership.”
WIM UK founding member, Barbara Dischinger, said: “Mining
is taking place in every corner of this world and our aim is to
bring women in the same profession closer together through this
shared platform. Members are active in a wide variety of
occupations, in virtually every mining-related business, which is
ideal for the promotion and development of new relationships, and
sharing experiences and expertise with the potential to create
additional opportunities for women in this sector,” said
Barbara Dischinger.
Anglo American’s Kevin Bishop also commented: “Our
work is conducted across many and diverse cultures, and therefore
eradicating any form of discrimination or prejudice is at the core
of all our initiatives. We constantly strive to achieve a more
equitable and demographically representative workforce, with a
specific emphasis on attracting more women into the mining sector.
Even though we have made good headway in this area, a concentrated
focus is still required to disconnect traditional obstacles
previously associated with opportunity and career advancement. We
look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with
WIM, one that will be good for women, for the industry and for
Anglo American.”
