Anglo American announces projects to support communities in Alaska
17 December, 2013
Anglo American plc (“Anglo American”) recognises that the departure from Alaska of its wholly owned US subsidiary (“Anglo Pebble”) will have a longer-term impact on local communities. Anglo Pebble has consulted extensively with local community stakeholders and based on these discussions has proposed projects, which it will directly fund, representing a total investment of $6 million.
These proposed projects include the Anglo American Scholarship Program covering academic tuition for students in the Bristol Bay area; the Tazimina Hydroelectric Expansion Project to significantly reduce the costs of heating for local communities; the Bristol Bay Economic Development Project to support local entrepreneurship and encourage inward investment to Alaska; and the Community Wellness Program to help address the health and social challenges in the region.
