Anglo American appoints Jim Rutherford to the Board

Anglo American plc (“Anglo American”) announces the appointment to its Board of Jim Rutherford as a non-executive director, with immediate effect.

Mr Rutherford has more than 25 years of experience in investment banking and investment management, both as an institutional investor and analyst. Between 1997 and 2013, he was a Senior Vice President at Capital Group, one of the world’s largest and longest established investment management companies, with responsibility for investments in the mining & metals industry.

Jim brings his considerable financial insight from the perspective of the capital markets, combined with his deep strategic understanding of the mining industry. Jim Rutherford, age 54, joined Capital Group in 1997 and until 2013 was a Senior Vice President of Capital International Investors (a division of Capital Group), with responsibility for investments in the mining & metals industry with a broad geographic focus that included Europe, Emerging Markets and Australasia. Prior to joining Capital Group, Jim was an investment analyst covering the South American mining & metals industry for HSBC James Capel in New York.  He also held analyst roles with Credit Lyonnais, covering diversified industrial companies, and CRU International, covering the copper industry.

Mr Rutherford received his Bachelor of Science in Economics and Computer Science from Queen’s University, Belfast (UK) and gained his Master of Arts in Development Economics from the University of Sussex (UK).
