Anglo Platinum appoints new CFO

02 September, 2008

Anglo Platinum announced the appointment of Mr. Bongani Nqwababa as its new Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of the Board. Nqwababa will join the company in January 2009.

Nqwababa is a qualified chartered accountant with considerable experience as finance director for two large South African companies, Eskom Holdings and Shell SA (Pty) Ltd. He is currently a board member of Old Mutual Plc and serves as chairman of the South African Revenue Services Audit Committee. His past experience includes roles as head of foreign exchange at Fidelity Investment Bank and as an Audit Manager at Pricewaterhouse (South Africa).

Nqwababa completed his MBA in Finance at the Institute of Financial Management in the United Kingdom in 1998, and his Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) at the University of Zimbabwe in 1988. He is a South African citizen, married with two children, and lives in Johannesburg. He replaces Norman Mbazima, who was recently appointed CEO of Scaw Metals, Anglo American’s diversified steel products business.

The appointment of Nqwababa was welcomed by Fred Phaswana, Chairman of the Board of Anglo Platinum. ‘I am delighted that we have appointed a chief financial officer of the calibre, capability and competence of Bongani Nqwababa. He brings nearly a decade of experience and leadership in financial management gained in the oil industry and at the national electricity supplier. He is a welcome addition to the Board and to the executive Committee of Anglo Platinum.’

The CEO of Anglo Platinum, Neville Nicolau, said, ‘We welcome Bongani to the executive management team at Anglo Platinum and look forward to the important contribution he will make in this challenging role. Under his financial stewardship, we are confident Bongani will make a positive contribution to the company’s growth agenda.’
