Speaking at the Merrill Lynch conference in Barcelona, chief executive Cynthia Carroll explained how Anglo American is enhancing its position of owning and operating a world class asset portfolio in the most attractive commodity markets, while being well positioned through the cycle.

Cynthia spoke at the recent copper conference in Santiago. She spoke about how the conditions in mining are very tough at present, but the medium- to long-term fundamentals are still in place for strong commodity prices and demand growth, particularly in copper.

Anglo American chief executive, Cynthia Carroll, is currently the Chair of the World Economic Forum's Mining and Metals Governors’. At the Forum she shared a stage with UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, in a session on "The Global Compact: Creating Sustainable Markets". In her remarks, Cynthia spoke about the progress made over the decade since the Compact was launched, in promoting its ten principles, and on the steps being taken by the mining industry to promote sustainable development and the Millennium Development Goals.
