Chief Executive Cynthia Carroll spoke to delegates at the Supplier Conference
Anglo American recognised five of its major partners at its inaugural Supplier Awards in November 2010.
The Awards ceremony provided Anglo American with the opportunity to acknowledge supplier excellence in the areas of safety, sustainability, innovation and partnership, and highlighted the progress of the Group and its partners since the transformation of its supply chain began in 2008.
“Through our Supplier Awards, we have been able to communicate, engage and share with suppliers what it takes to meet our ambition to become the investment, the partner and the employer of choice,” said Andrew Hinkly, Anglo American’s Group Head of Supply Chain.
“Recipients of these Awards have demonstrated an ability to live our guiding values of Safety, Care and Respect, Integrity, Accountability, Collaboration and Innovation, and integrate them into their own business processes.
“To know our external partners have the same dedication and belief in achieving our common goals is of vital importance to us and these Awards recognise their efforts in providing best practice throughout their services.”
The Awards were presented by members of the Anglo American Executive Committee at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London, following the Group’s annual Supplier Conference and trade fair.
Now in its third year, the Supplier Conference continues to evolve into an integral part of the development of Anglo American’s supply chain process, with workshops and roundtable discussions providing the platform to build a better appreciation of priorities to suppliers.
“As well as our own duty of care, we demand that all our suppliers meet the highest possible standards and the trade show and conference workshops provide an opportunity to communicate these ideals,” said Hinkly.
“From developing new technologies to integrating sustainable local procurement and global sourcing strategies, together we are tackling the most pressing issues impacting on our supply chain and examining how we can continue to raise the bar.”
Also speaking at the Supplier Conference, Chief Executive Cynthia Carroll outlined Anglo American’s five expectations of its suppliers.
“First, there must be a commitment to Zero Harm,” she said, in recognition of the Group’s goal of achieving the very highest safety standards.
“Second, alignment with our Supply Chain Sustainable Development Policy.
“Third, a joint commitment to value creation – for example, agreeing to standard principles of engagement as a platform on which to build more effective communications.
“Fourth, sharing of best practice and technology innovations, including R&D and continuous improvement.
“And finally, support for our Supplier Relationship Management programme. If you can assure us of those commitments, then we really can work together.”
