Through proactive talent management, Anglo American identifies its future leaders, works with them to achieve their potential, and sources and selects new talent to increase the 'bench strength' and diversity of the talent pool.
Our aim is to have the right people in all positions within Anglo American, ensuring strong and focused leadership for the business now and into the future. This means developing a pipeline with the right quantity and quality of talent over a multi-year timeframe and having well executed systems and processes for moving people through the pipeline.
We will ensure that we have the best talent, in the right place, at the right time to meet our business needs now and in the future, by:
- Driving succession planning across the organisation
- Growing and finding the right talent for senior roles
- Improving the standard of talent in the organisation
- Fostering the motivation and engagement of talented people
The development of talent remains a key priority for our Group. In 2010, we launched the Anglo American People Development Way. This is a global capability framework which describes the behaviours, knowledge, skills and experiences needed in the organisation to enable the company to achieve its strategic objectives.
During 2011 and into 2012, each discipline will launch its own ‘Way’ – such as the Finance People Way and the HR People Way – which ensures clarity around the technical skills required per area and enables employees to understand requirements, career paths, and development opportunities.
A standardised set of development programmes throughout the Group complements business unit-specific development initiatives. These include 'high potential' graduate, management and leadership development programmes.
We aim to understand people’s aspirations, combined with the needs of the business. By truly harnessing the opportunities offered by the size and scale of Anglo American, we ensure we have the right people in the right jobs, and are giving people the appropriate exposure, opportunity and experience for the longer term.
