Contributing to your community
At Anglo American, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to your communities.
With many of our operations located in emerging countries, our presence can offer real opportunities, upliftment and prosperity
The communities surrounding our projects, operations and offices have a fundamental impact on the way in which we carry out our work. It is through their goodwill that we are able to gain and maintain our social licence to operate. It is, therefore, vital that we collaborate with, support and assist these communities in every way possible.
With many of our operations located in emerging countries – often near communities with low levels of socio-economic development – our presence can offer real opportunities, upliftment and prosperity. Through enterprise development, local procurement, social investment and charitable donations, we build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships that will help us become recognised as the partner of choice.
Our interaction with communities in these areas of our business starts and ends with individual employees, so it is important that all our people represent Anglo American with our values at the fore. Demonstrating care and respect, collaboration, integrity and accountability is vital to ensuring trust and transparency in all our dealings.
Of course, not every role within the Group will involve face-to-face interaction with our community partners, but that does not mean you won’t have the opportunity to contribute to their development.
The Anglo American Group Foundation and the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund are just two of the programmes we have in place to help our businesses and employees give something back to the community. Focusing on areas such as education, health, housing and the environment, the work they carry out can make their mark on an international, national or local level.
When conducted responsibly, we believe mining has the potential to act as a motor for wider development. With the support and passion of our people, that potential can become a reality.
