Keeping our supply chains ethical and transparent

Our Supply Chain team is made up of procurement professionals responsible for identifying potential suppliers of goods and services, screening them, and negotiating the most favourable of payment terms.

They’re also responsible for making sure that our sometimes-complex supply and value chains are ethical and transparent and free of modern slavery - the UK’s Modern Slavery Act (MSA), the first piece of legislation dedicated to the prevention of modern slavery and the protection of its victims, makes it clear that global companies such as ours are responsible for preventing slavery or labour abuses across their global supply chains.

Our Supply Chain colleagues are guided by our Purpose and Code of Conduct and supported by our Human Rights Framework, which sets out how we respect human rights, our Social Way, the governance framework we employ to assess our social performance among our host communities, and our Responsible Sourcing Standards for Suppliers.

Leading the way in responsible sourcing

Our Responsible Sourcing Standards for Suppliers include requirements under five headings or ‘pillars’ that must all be met by any supplier that wants to work with us.

The pillars summarise our expectations of suppliers when it comes to:

  • Protecting safety and health
  • Protecting the environment
  • Respecting labour and human rights (including modern slavery)
  • Increasing social accountability
  • Conducting business fairly and with integrity.

As a procurement professional in Anglo American, you’ll work with our suppliers to make sure they understand what’s required of them and raise their awareness of sustainability- related issues and the management of risk in terms of supply chains.
