Our platinum mining operations are in South Africa, in the country’s North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.
Platinum's South African operations are in the Rustenburg area of the North West province where the company conducts underground mining at Khomanani, Bathopele, Siphumelele, Thembelani, Khuseleka mines (formerly Rustenburg mine), Tumela and Dishaba mines (formerly Amandelbult mine). Underground mining is also carried out at Bafokeng-Rasimone, Kroondal and Marikana joint ventures.
Operations on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex include the Modikwa and Mototolo joint ventures, with African Rainbow Minerals and XK Platinum Partnership respectively. UG2 is one of the two main platinum-bearing reefs in the Bushveld Complex; the other is the Merensky Reef.
Further to the north is Mogalakwena, an open cast operation, and Lebowa Platinum. Platinum is also in a joint venture at Pandora (42.5%) and has 50:50 pooling and sharing agreements with Aquarius Platinum covering the shallow reserves of the Kroondal and Marikana mines and portions of the reserves at Thembelani and Khuseleka.
