Anglo American agrees US$500 million sale of undeveloped coal assets in Australia

Anglo American opens six new schools in Chile’s earthquake-hit area

Anglo American has completed the construction of six modular schools in Chile that will benefit 4,500 schoolchildren in the areas most affected by the earthquake that hit the centre and south of the country on 27 February 2010. Anglo American has built the schools as part of its US$10 million donation announced a few days after the earthquake.

Anglo American to support reconstruction in Chile with US$10 million donation

Following the devastating earthquake in Chile, Anglo American is pleased to announce the donation of US$10 million (equivalent to just over Ch$5 billion), which will be allocated to projects to rebuild houses and schools and implement emergency water and electricity services. The company will work with the Chilean government to formulate the aid and reconstruction plans.

Anglo American: Further update on its operations in Chile

Further to our announcement on March 1 2010, Anglo American is now in a position to provide a further update on the situation in Chile. Affected copper mining operations - Los Bronces, El Soldado and Mantoverde - were able to resume full and safe production during Sunday when power was returned to all operations. It is expected that the Chagres smelter will resume full production by Wednesday following the resumption of full power supply. Lost copper production during the stoppage was limited to less than 1,500 tonnes. Minor damage was reported at Anglo American's copper mining operations.
