Where we operate

We have iron ore and manganese operations on three continents – South Africa, South America and Australia.

South Africa

Kumba Iron Ore is the world's fourth largest supplier of seaborne iron ore, and exported more than 85% of its total iron ore sales volumes in 2009.

Samancor, which is the world's largest producer of seaborne manganese ore and among the top three global producers of manganese alloy, is headquartered in South Africa.

South America

The Minas Rio iron ore project is located in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro and will include open pit mines, a beneficiation plant and a pipeline more than 500 kilometres to the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro state.

Amapá iron ore system is located in Amapá state in northern Brazil and is in the process of ramping up its pellet feed and sinter feed production to its design capacity.

Australia

The Australian manganese operations consist of Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO), situated off the east coast of the Northern Territory of Australia, and Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company (TEMCO), which is based at Bell Bay, approximately 55 kilometres from Launceston, Tasmania.
