Governance
As a global organisation, we comply with the highest international standards of corporate governance. We direct and control our company in a transparent and accountable way.
We also work with key organisations and other stakeholders to increase the mining industry's overall transparency and accountability. One example is our long-standing participation in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
Role of the Board
The board of directors is responsible to shareholders for Anglo American's performance. In addition to the Chairman, the board consists of two executive and eight non-executive directors, seven of whom are independent.
Board responsibilities include:
- Strategic objectives
- Major acquisitions, disposals and capital expenditures
- Oversight of internal control systems
- Governance
- Risk management
Role of employees and contractors
Employees and contractors play a key role in helping us maintain good governance. They are expected to comply with our Good Citizenship Business Principles. To support their efforts, we provide them with an independent, confidential and global whistle-blowing facility called Speak Up.
