We made a firm commitment to sustainable development in 2000.

Today, sustainable development is embedded in our policies, strategies and everyday practices. We assess the economic, social and environmental risks and benefits of every decision.

We also work in partnership with our stakeholders to promote sustainable development. Our goal is to maximise our positive contributions, alongside governments and society, and reduce any negative impacts.

This is the essence of sustainable development.

Safety and sustainable development

Ensuring the safety of our employees and contractors goes hand-in-hand with sustainable development. Ultimately, no business is sustainable if its people are not safe.

Safety is a leading indicator of overall business performance. It requires the same rigour and discipline that is needed to succeed in business.

Zero harm

In 2007, we renewed our focus on safety. We are creating a real belief in the concept of zero harm. This does not mean zero risk. It means implementing robust controls to effectively manage these risks.

Our safety risk management programme helps us manage our business safely — from business development to project execution, operations and expansions.
